Hi all!
I've continued to dip my toe into (read: become radically obsessed with) In the Flesh. I've finished my first fic as of this morning, and ADORED writing it. It's here.
So far, aside from the amazing source material and inspiration to write, I just have to say that the small fandom for ITF is so generous and sweet, really lovely. Makes me happy like in the good ol' days of Snupin, just warm feelings, good humor, and support all around, small enough that you start to recognize names and personalities a bit. After my foray into the behemoth of Sherlock, it's a pleasure. I only wish the fandom was located here on LJ, for better interactions, rather than in the crystal mystery that is tumblr (I still don't understand tumblr at all. I'm like Grandpa Simpson on that one).
So, I'll make another plug for the show (buy episodes here!), but mostly just wanted to add an update about finishing the fic, and hoping to get started on the next one.

*hugs you all*

Oooh, someone else on the flist--do you know tarteaucitron?--is really into this show and has recommended it to me more than once. I've been curious, but I have a low tolerance for blood and guts. I know the focus of the show is on the characters, but do you think someone would be able to make it through the more gory aspects? Are things shown or talked about at length?

Always nice to find a small, friendly fandom, hm? M.

Yay! I know tarteaucitron's name- perhaps from you- but not her. It seems like a growing little fandom, very active and enthusiatic.

I am very low tolerance for blood and guts, too. Horror is my least favorite genre, by far, and I hate gore. I am happy to give you a guide to "when to look away" if you want to watch, because it is very light on the gore in general, and the yucky stuff is not discussed and is not at all the point of the show. The worst bits are in the first episode actually, and then there is just some that is "black goo around mouth" kind of zombie look. Also, it is never gratuitous, the couple of scenes with some gore are totally there for important narrative and character reasons.
Did you watch LOTR? The general level of Orc goo and ooziness is the most common kind of special effect gore (still rare), and there is only one "zombies attack a person" flashback in the entire series. Sadly, the worst of the gore is in the very first scene of episode 1, which might scare people away, but I could just summarize what happens and you could skip! In my "I hate gore" opinion, it was worth it. I am always greatly helped if someone just tells me the worst, so I'm not anticipating the entire time. Just say the word, and a gore summary will be yours!
I really want to encourage you to watch. So much good stuff to think about and discuss, really interesting and the storytelling and writing and performances are amazing.

Hmmm... I might ask you to do that, if you don't mind. I really don't do well with gore, even if it's done badly/isn't realistic, but I love books and shows that use the whole wizard/vampire/zombie genre as a metaphor, so this show's piqued my interest ever since tarte first mentioned it. Thanks, C! M.

Doing it! It's a great excuse to watch again, and yes, if you like the use of fantastical elements as metaphor, this is the show for you. :) I think you'll enjoy so much about the show, from the women characters, to the writing, to the complex issues...so looking forward to your thoughts!
I've rewatched and noted gore in the first two eps. I'll finish season one (only three episodes, like a long good movie) and then link you to my google doc where I've kept my notes. I'll send to your gmail, if that works for you. If it works for you and you want me to, I'll do season two after that.

I need an ITF icon. Yep.
