westernredcedar: (Sherlock library)
Anyone still here? Hello!!! *waves madly*
So, I wrote a fic. It's a Sherlock fic and it helped me realize how out of practice I am with writing, but nonetheless, I posted the thing over at AO3.

Title: Box Score
Author: westernredcedar
Summary: "What are we looking for at a baseball game exactly?”
Sherlock sips his coffee. “Clues."
“Yes, thank you, Poirot.”
Fandom: BBC Sherlock
Rated: R
Pairing: Sherlock/John
Warnings: possible suicide mentioned, baseball, angst
Notes: This was written for the "Sports" prompt at sherlockchallenge over on tumblr. I meant to write a light-hearted ficlet about Sherlock becoming obsessed with baseball box scores (as he would), but then this happened instead.

Hello friends,

Lots going on in the past weeks, and I haven't shared any of it...so here on a calm Friday evening, how's about a wrap-up?

In the Flesh, Big Bangs that Weren't, Snupin Sadness, New Fic in Progress )
Hope you are all enjoying 2015, so far.
People, it's the future.
*hug*

*dashes in*

Hi! I updated my latest In the Flesh fic, To Fight His Corner, link is to chapter two. The rising as seen by Sue Walker. Grim, short, on to Simon in chapter three. Hurrah!
School started this week, so I'm in the flurry of adjustment that entails every year. Going okay but exhausting, so far. The dream of reasonable, year-round school gets more and more real to me every fall- so much lost over the summer, for students and teachers...*sigh*
Okay, that's it for my fly by. *hugs*

*dashes away*
westernredcedar: (Torchwood kiss)
In the interest of consistency and bookkeeping, I'm posting a link here to yet another In the Flesh fic! Only the first chapter posted so far, but it can stand alone if you want your heart crushed.

Title: To Fight His Corner
Author: [livejournal.com profile] westernredcedar
Summary: When her son is nine years old, Sue Walker thinks for the first time my Kieren is different from the other boys.
Rated: PG-13 so far, probably will stay so
Pairings: Rick/Kieren so far, Simon/Kieren later (you know, canon)
Tags/Warnings: Sue Walker POV, Walker Family, Macy Family, canon character death, so much angst

More notes and such are at the fic over on Ao3. I'm going to try and finish it by this weekend for saveintheflesh Sunday.

Still need at ITF icon, jeez. *hugs*

Hi all! I posted a third (shorter) In the Flesh fic today...and I'm still determined to convince a few more of you to try this fabulous show.

Here, enjoy this cute fan PowerPoint to convince you to watch ITF (FYI: link takes you to tumblr, and will give you sort of general spoilers, but nothing specific):

Why You Should Watch In the Flesh by debbiegllagher

Here's the thingy I wrote. It's a simple scene between Simon and Sue Walker, and works best if you read the other two fics I've written first, but hey, it's all good.

Title: The Din of the World
Fandom: In the Flesh
Summary: Simon tries to imagine what has brought Sue, alone, to his doorstep. "If you are in search of Kieren, I'm afraid he's not here at the moment. Is everything all right?"
"No, no, all's well. Kieren's home. I was hoping to find you, actually."
Characters: Simon Monroe, Sue Walker, Kieren Walker, Simon/Kieren
Rated: PG
Length: 1800 words

*hugs*

westernredcedar: (Cedar)
Well, I wrote another In the Flesh fic, so I'll post here again, just in case any of you are tempted...

Title: Betwixt and Between
Summary: It is still hanging there, between them, the unanswered question.
"You left. I searched everywhere for you. Where did you go?"
Pairing, Characters: Simon/Kieren, Jem, Sue, Steve, Shirley, Tom, a few others referenced
Length: 4100 words
Rated: PG-13
Warnings/Tags: Simon POV, post-series 2, angst, developing relationship

So there's that! I'm proud of it, but it sure needs a brit-pick...I'm so lazy about betas now. What has happened to me??

I was up really late last night watching various Robin Williams scenes and interviews, shedding some tears. It's always odd to feel sad over the loss of someone you only know through their work, but this one really got me...so many really influential moments in my life have a corresponding Robin Williams film, from Popeye as a child, to Good Morning Vietnam when I was just starting to understand how much I love the exploration of war through art (that was middle school) to Dead Poets as an angsty teen, to Fisher King in high school (god, seeing that movie has a life changing story with it for me...) I even have this crystal clear memory from very small childhood of being at my friends house and watching a video of his stand-up, and during the entended riff on the name of his penis ("Mr. Happy"), I had this epiphany that I must be growing up since I was allowed to watch this now.

Take care of each other. *hugsyou*
westernredcedar: (Cedar)
Hi all!
I've continued to dip my toe into (read: become radically obsessed with) In the Flesh. I've finished my first fic as of this morning, and ADORED writing it. It's here.
So far, aside from the amazing source material and inspiration to write, I just have to say that the small fandom for ITF is so generous and sweet, really lovely. Makes me happy like in the good ol' days of Snupin, just warm feelings, good humor, and support all around, small enough that you start to recognize names and personalities a bit. After my foray into the behemoth of Sherlock, it's a pleasure. I only wish the fandom was located here on LJ, for better interactions, rather than in the crystal mystery that is tumblr (I still don't understand tumblr at all. I'm like Grandpa Simpson on that one).
So, I'll make another plug for the show (buy episodes here!), but mostly just wanted to add an update about finishing the fic, and hoping to get started on the next one.

*hugs you all*
westernredcedar: (Cedar)
Hi all! My love of In the Flesh has spawned some fic. I know this is a long shot read for many of you who haven't watched the show, but I have solution for you! Watch! It's only 9 episodes! If you missed my original sales pitch for the show, it's here. /pestering

Here's the fic. It's Part 1, with Part 2 coming in the next day or two, on AO3.

Title: No Length of String
Author: [livejournal.com profile] westernredcedar
Summary: The most shocking thing about being alive again is that Simon doesn't hate it the second time round.
Rated: R
Pairing: Simon/Kieren
Length: 2700 words, so far
Warnings/Tags: Simon POV, Character study, Drug abuse, Suicide, Past violence, angst, kissing, missing scenes
Notes: This was my first attempt at airing some of my Simon and Kieren headcanon, and the angst-fest that is Simon's life. Enjoy!

Hope you are having a lovely summer, my dears. *hugsflist*
westernredcedar: (Sherlock library)
Wrote another short Sherlock fic, this one for a Stag Night challenge. Here it is!

Title: Not Literal Shelves
Author: [livejournal.com profile] westernredcedar
Summary: Stag night AR; as the night goes on, Sherlock wants to make sure John's metabolism is balanced by some food, and he knows this fantastic fish shop off the Marylebone Road, where the owner always gives him extra portions...
Pairings: John/Sherlock, John/Mary (implied), Sherlock/OCs
Rated: R
Length: 4000 words
Tags/Warnings: first kiss, first time, cheating, jealousy, so much drinking, adorable drunk idiots, sexuallyactivegay!Sherlock, bisexual!John, what else could I helped him put up some shelves mean
Notes: Written for Let's Write Sherlock Challenge 14: On Thousand Stag Nights on tumblr.
I refered to [livejournal.com profile] arianedevere fabulous transcripts constantly to be sure I was on target with canon, and got all my quotes correct. The fabulous [livejournal.com profile] bk7brokemybrain beta'ed, and wonderful [livejournal.com profile] vilestrumpet Brit-picked and beta'ed!

*hugs* Hope you are all enjoying summer!
westernredcedar: (sherlock what?)
Hi all! I wrote another little angsty Sherlock story based on "The Sign of Three." Here it is!

Title: Out of Time
Author: [livejournal.com profile] westernredcedar
Summary: Somerset is a lovely place for a wedding, but what John hadn't accounted for was the getting everyone there.
Pairings and Characters: John/Sherlock (complicated), John/Mary (getting married), John/Sholto (implied)
Rated: PG-13
Word Count: ~3100
Tags and warnings: someone marrying someone while being crazy in love with someone else, canon compliant, ANGST!, bisexual John, Stonehenge, road trip

Notes: ariane_devere wrote an adorable story about Mary's hen night, The Hen Night and in the author notes she pointed out the unlikely fact that John and Mary's wedding would be in Somerset (as it is, according to the invitation), yet Sherlock would still be in London that morning. Well, I took this weird fact as a fic writing challenge! So here is my first attempt at explaining why this odd geography is in the show, and guess what the answer is? Johnlock! What a surprise!
I took a couple of liberties with the timing- the canon invitation says that the wedding is at noon, but honestly? Noon, and then dinner and dancing into the night? Is this a ten hour wedding? So I changed the time to 4:00.
Also, I think it is possible to read this story as part of the same canon-compliant universe as Adagio, in Baker Street, if you want to.

Hi dear flist! *hugsallaround*
westernredcedar: (Sherlock library)
Well, I wrote a whole big Sherlock thing (well, big for me, almost 9000 words), all canon-compliant angst based on The Sign of Three and lots of meta I've been reading. If you are interested, it's finished now and posted over at Ao3. SO MUCH FUN TO BE WRITING AGAIN!

Title: Adagio, in Baker Street (takes you to the beginning, or here's a direct link to part 4 and part 5)
Author: [livejournal.com profile] westernredcedar
Summary: "I can dance perfectly well, thank you." "You cannot." "And you are some sort of expert, are you?"
Word count: ~8900
Rated: PG-13 (just a whole lotta UST and confusion)
Pairings/Characters: John/Mary, John/Sherlock (sort of), Molly's in there too, and now Lestrade, Donovan, and Dimmock as well
Warnings: Person in confused love with someone else is still planning to get married...
Notes: You should be aware that I have been rolling around in the meta of loudest_subtext_in_television and abrae, and that this work is definitely born of their interpretations of canon at this point. Whee! I also owe [livejournal.com profile] bk7brokemybrain much credit for getting me completely obsessed right now, and encouraging this piece.

*hugs all around* Hope you are all well!
westernredcedar: (Sherlock library)
So, I've been writing constantly, more chapters of the Sherlock thingy I posted before, if anyone cares to check it out: Adagio, in Baker Street. It mostly a big pile of UST based on the tossed off idea in canon that Sherlock taught John to waltz. There are now three chapters, and 4 and 5 are written in my mind, I know where I'm going. I need to keep my pace up because I'm on a week break now, and I know I will not be able to write as much when I'm back to work. Chop chop, me.

I've been thinking a lot this week, as I let myself get completely swept up in Sherlock fandom like I haven't since HP first grabbed me and wouldn't let go, about what got me into fandom in the first place. Now I'm seeing parallels all over. Navel-gazing below the cut. )
westernredcedar: (Cedar)
Hi all! Happy Valentine's, et cetera.

Here's a missing canon scene from The Sign of Three. Aimed for a little casual ficlet, ended up writing 1800 words yesterday. Whee! Anyway, this is my first attempt at imagining how the private waltz lessons between Sherlock and John might possibly have gone down, considering. Because...really? Huh? How?

Title: Adagio, in Baker Street
Author: [livejournal.com profile] westernredcedar
Summary: "I can dance perfectly well, thank you." "You cannot." "And you are some sort of expert, are you?"
Word count: 1836
Rated: PG (just a whole lotta UST and confusion)
Pairings: John/Mary, John/Sherlock (sort of)
Notes: Just a very tantalizing missing canon scene that I imagine will be written many times in many ways. You should be aware that I have been rolling around in the meta of loudest_subtext_in_television and abrae, and that this work is definitely born of their interpretations of canon at this point. Whee! I also owe [livejournal.com profile] bk7brokemybrain much credit for getting me completely obsessed right now, and encouraging this piece.
westernredcedar: (Sherlock library)
Well, I finally completed the Sherlock fic I started posting eons ago. I wrapped it up (to my satisfaction for now) in two parts rather than the originally planned three, so this is now finished and can stop living in the back of my brain like a nagging, gnawing thing.
In light of new canon in Season 3, I should point out that the title is from Sherlock's quote in The Great Game, "Putting my best man onto it right now," rather than any wedding related shenanigans or other meanings of "Best Man."
Anyhoo, it's over at Ao3 if you are interested.

Title: His Best Man
Author: westernredcedar
Pairing: John/Sherlock
Summary: On day twenty-three, the fog lifts and John figures it out.
Tags/Warnings: post-Reichenbach, angst, grief, ambiguous relationship under development, what if John figures it out, not Season 3 compliant
Rated: PG
Length: ~11,000
Notes: bk7brokemybrain helped me so much with both parts, and woldy beta'ed on chapter one as well. Huge credit to arianedevere, whose amazing transcripts allowed me to pull lines easily and use them in this piece.

*hugs*
westernredcedar: (Hands)
And, for the record, here's part two. The other fest I participated in this year was my dear old Snupin Santa. This little something was based on the prompt, "Remus and Severus attend the symphony," and it just evolved from there. Also, I'm very out of practice writing smut. And action. Also also, [livejournal.com profile] aunty_marion helped me crack this one into shape. Much love.

Title: My Promising Career in Espionage
Summary: Remus needs the work, and Dumbledore has a new contact for him, a young Death Eater who has just started passing information.
Rating: NC-17
Length: 5500 words
Other pairings: Sirius/Remus (past)
Warnings: None
Notes: The title is part of a quote by Q. Thank you to the fabulous Aunty Marion for the beta help!
Your prompt category and number (Example: DDO #6 or Story #78): DDO #9 Snape and Lupin attend the symphony.

My Promising Career in Espionage )
westernredcedar: (KinkyThewlis)
Hi y'all! I'm reposting my anon fics from the holiday season. Hurrah! This was my offering for [livejournal.com profile] inamac at Daily Deviant's Kinky Kristmas. Ina's prompt was for any members of the Black Family Tree having a good time, "historical Christmas," and some various fun kinks that I did very little with. *sigh* However, it was a hoot to write for DD again. AND, joy of joys, dear [livejournal.com profile] nehalenia came out of the woodwork and betaed for me, which was such a treat on top of treat. So. Here's the thing:

Title: A Grimmauld Carol
Characters/Pairings:Sirius Black/Remus Lupin (c. 1978), Ancestral Sirius Black/Hester Gamp (c. 1897)
Rating: NC-17
Kinks/Themes Included: Costumes, light CBT, waxplay, smoking
Other Warnings/Content: timey-wimey, partner sharing/fourway, Sirius swears constantly
Word Count: 6800
Summary/Description: Two couples get deliciously lost in Grimmauld Place on Christmas Eve.

A Grimmauld Carol )
westernredcedar: (Cedar)
Well, well, well...look what I did! I wrote some words, in order, to make sentences and thoughts! It is a miracle. I've been reading and lurking in Sherlock fandom for over a year, and puttering slowly away at this fic for many many months, so I finally decided to kick myself in the butt and post the first part, eager to motivate myself to finish the other chapters. So, here is chapter one of the first thing I've tried to write in Sherlock fandom. Trying a new fandom feels a little bit like cheating on my loyal Snupin spouse, but I know the boys will understand (feels Snape's icy glare and Lupin's understanding yet judgmental eyes upon me...)

If anyone cares to give this a try, it is over at Ao3:

Title: His Best Man
Author: westernredcedar
Pairing: John/Sherlock
Summary: On day twenty-three, the fog lifts and John figures it out.
Warnings: post-Reichenbach (spoilers, ahoy!), angst, grief, ambiguous confusing relationship, no Sherlock in this part
Rated: This part is PG, later parts will be rated higher
Length: 5800 in this part, estimated 15,000 in all
Notes: Thank you to book7brokemybrain and woldy, who both gave this portion a look-over and made many helpful comments. I have messed with it quite a lot since then, so the errors are all mine.
Huge credit to arianedevere, whose amazing transcripts allowed me to pull lines easily and use them in this piece.
I have most of part two written and will strive to update in a week.

Smooches and hugs to all of you. I'm excited to get back to some writing! *kiss*
westernredcedar: (Hands)
Title: The Steep and Thorny Way
Author: [livejournal.com profile] westernredcedar
Summary: Remus is married now, soon to be a father. So why can't he stop thinking about a man who is a traitor and murderer?
Rated: R
Warnings: not exactly infidelity, but not exactly fidelity, either
Length: ~2300
Notes: Repost! Written for [livejournal.com profile] omni_sama at Snupin Santa 2011. Based on this prompt- Canon-compliant (as much as any non-canonical pairing fic can be) heart-breaker fic taking place during the Second War, after Severus has killed Dumbledore. Two souls that were meant to be, if the world had spun differently, but can only brush past each other in the blinding darkness of their personal hells. An attraction never before admitted, a love never to be spoken. Make it hot, make it hurt.
This fic was vaguely inspired by this part of Good Omens: "The ducks in St. James' Park are so used to being fed bread by secret agents meeting clandestinely that they have developed their own Pavlovian reaction." The title is from Hamlet.
Thank you to [livejournal.com profile] islandsmoke and [livejournal.com profile] celandineb for the inspiration when I needed it!

westernredcedar: (Draped Arm)
Title: Meddling
Author: [livejournal.com profile] westernredcedar
Summary: Hermione has noticed many things about two of her professors, including that they both seem lonely and might enjoy some companionship.
Pairing: Remus/Severus
Rated: NC-17
Warnings: None
Length: ~2800
Notes: Repost! Written for [livejournal.com profile] miss_fatigue at Snupin Santa 2011.

Meddling )
westernredcedar: (Draped Arm)
Well, what have we here? Me, posting fic? Nah. It couldn't be...
Actually, improbable as it may seem, I did write for [livejournal.com profile] samhain_smut, and this was my entry. It is mildly edited in this version to alter a couple of lines that made me cringe.

Title: Shabby
Author/Artist: [livejournal.com profile] westernredcedar
Prompt # 16- Marauder's era: Hogwarts is holding a Halloween ball/party/etc. Severus is less than enamoured with the entire thing, and eventually he sneaks away for some peace and quiet (or perhaps just to mope!). He retreats to a relatively secluded spot -- where he's surprised to find someone else sitting out the festivities as well.
Pairing(s)/Character(s): Remus/Severus, Remus/OC
Rating: NC-17
Summary There is always someone interesting to run into in the Hogwarts’ shrubbery.
Word Count: ~2100
Warnings/Content: They are 16
Author's/Artist's notes: One of the characteristics of many of my Snupin stories is that the boys usually have a history that goes all the way back to Hogwarts. However, I've rarely tried to write one of those early hook-ups...until now!
This was great fun to write. [livejournal.com profile] ragdoll ran a great fest and I loved being a part of it.
