Hi honey! Sorry I've been such a slow replier. I couldn't turn on the computer on the 103 degree day due to the heat it gave off, and then I went on a trip and was away from the computer most of the time. Internet fail!! :) Thanks for all the tips. We did well at night to get our fans going and blow all of the hellish air out of our little house/oven, and then the SO went to work putting up reflective foil all over the south and west facing windows, so the next day was much more bearable. I'm buying a portable AC once the stores restock however, because I refuse to suffer like that again. Our new house is far too exposed and shadeless to deal with that kind of heat EVER AGAIN. Ugh. On your northwest/northeast thought- great question! I take it as part of the general east coast bias of the country, due to how we were founded east to west- I mean, why the heck is the midwest called the midwest? It's in the middle of the country, not the middle of the west, after all. I suspect that because what was "west" changed so much over the years (Kentucky is out west, Missouri is out west, etc.), we had to get extra labels...we are, after all, the recently acquired funky stepchildren of America way out here in the corner. ;) Thanks for all your help again, m'dear! *smooch*
