Oh, this was so beautiful--bittersweet and angsty, and yet hopeful at the same time! I really loved all the awkwardness and all the things left unsaid (mostly between Severus and Lily, but also between Severus and Remus)--especially the way that Severus couldn't quite bring himself to apologize. The painful-yet-hopeful mood was what really captivated me about this fic: the way things are kind of okay but not really, because they can't bring themselves to actually talk about what happened, but at the same time, they're trying so hard to make things work.
Reading the comment thread below about DH, I think this fic could still work with the canon storyline. Severus has a lot of pride, and while he was able to apologize right after the incident, in the heat of the moment when he was desperate not to lose Lily's friendship, he might find it a lot harder weeks later, especially after having that first apology thrown back in his face.
