Hi, still here. Since I've posted so infrequently these last few years, I'm taking the posting challenge at my own pace. Hell, if I post thirty times THIS YEAR, never mind in a month, it will be a huge accomplishment.

So, another school year underway, so my time becomes more precious, but also quite a bit more organized. This year started with a jolt, so much going on super fast, so I'm actually looking forward to October when I think the pace will slow back to only average crazy.

I'm still shoulders-deep in Torchwood fandom... I'm just swimming through the thick juicy goodness of all of the fic that was written in the heyday of the show. I've probably been reading 10k a day of really amazing fic. I'm painfully sad to have missed being part of that initial blast, but I know at the time I was nowhere near interested in trying on another fandom beyond HP, so I can't regret it really. Has anyone else had the experience of hitting a fandom too late? I'm actually quite inspired to write but I feel like it would writing to an echo chamber...so many of the authors have not updated their journals since 2009...

Due to the wise advice of [livejournal.com profile] islandsmoke I am now making my way through Doctor Who (the new ones), starting with 9. I'm almost at the end of 10's first season, although the fact is I've already skipped around and watched all the Harkness episodes in all the seasons, continuity be damned, so I've dabbled in the next two seasons as well. I'm loving it all, shiny and fun, and my (particularly nerdy and adorable) class of kids this year is beside themselves that I'm watching, too.

Last night I went down the rabbit hole of reading various "10 Best Doctor Who Episodes" lists posted throughout the interwebs, and it made me ponder why people so enjoy making top ten lists. Although not for long, because it is clearly for the arguments that follow.

So for the record, the best Torchwood episode, based on the number of times I've rewatched it (lots of times) is "KissKissBangBang" and the most painfully bad moment in Torchwood is when Owen and Martha have to do "science" to the pop beat on a Casio synthesizer while giggling and tripping over each other in "Reset." Debate?

No? ;P

Also, I just watched "Meat" again, and then looked at this rec and post again, and it is this sort of thing that makes me just wish I'd been part of the fun when the show was all new and the fans were crazed and hysterical. Good hysterical. Because Space Burrito. *nodnod*

Ok, I'm off to watch a Who episode and drift off into an obsessive slumber. Good night. *hugs*

I need to re-watch Torchwood, it's been too long.

"Meat" broke my heart, though I liked Rhys in it. KKBB, yes - love the fight! "Countrycide" sticks in my mind most, maybe 'cause of the beautiful scenery, the snark, and the fact that it scares me to death. "Small Worlds" appeals to me because we see that Jack really can love deeply.

Owen. Can't stand Owen, glad he was heartbroken in "Out of Time."

Gwen. Not a person I like, not after the way she treats Rhys in "Combat." Well, in general.

Didn't like Suzy much.

Like Tash, Ianto and Jack. Funny how much I like the show considering that I don't much like a number of the characters.

Watch again! The problem with being late to a fandom is that all my sparkly new-seeming thoughts have all already been thought, even though I'm dying to talk about it all with someone...like You!!
Small Worlds is next on my rewatching list...I do love the Estelle plot. My brain just cannot stop pondering immortality and being a normal human and all that would mean for your life. That ep is great for those big thoughts.
Hah about Owen! I like to have an unpleasant character to deal with, so I enjoy his plot lines, and his characterization. He's such a thorough ass. I think I just have a soft spot for Burn Gorman ever since he played Mr Guppy in Bleak House (my favorite novel of all time) so Owen works for me.
I adore Gwen/Rhys, and from HP you might know I have a soft spot for well-done infidelity that hurts, so I hate what Gwen does to Rhys but also love the plot line...heh, what is that about? I mostly get sick of her staring longingly at Jack...do it or don't kids, enough of the emo longing...
I love Tosh. I wish there were more Tosh centric episodes so much. Captain Jack Harkness is such a great episode for many reasons, but Tosh is top o' the list.
I think I like many things where I dislike many characters...probably Wuthering Heights is the top example of that phenomenon...I guess it is fun to dislike characters as well as like, if the source is good enough. ??
Watch!! *hug*
